Machacek, Rogers, Arenas to run for supervisor

Alburnett Republican Dave Machacek, a 64-year-old farmer, announced today he will run for supervisor in District 5. It’ll be his third go at it. He lost in 2004 and 2006. Current supervisor Jim Houser is also running in District 5, which covers the westernmost swath of the county, from Walker to Fairfax, and juts into the central part of the county around Alburnett.

Also, Ben Rogers, a 28-year-old from northeast Cedar Rapids who develops and markets web products, is going to run in District 3, which appears to be wide open for now. It includes northeast Cedar Rapids and Hiawatha. Other candidates in that district are Mary Arenas, a Democrat, and Eric Rosenthal, a Republican.
