I’m Adam Belz, a reporter at The Gazette, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I grew up just north of Walker, Iowa, and went to a small liberal arts school in north Georgia called Covenant College. I’ve worked at The Gazette since I graduated with a history degree in May 2006. I started as an intern, then moved into the night cops reporter job. When Gazette veteran Dick Hogan retired as the Linn County reporter at the end of 2007, I moved into his beat.
When the June 2008 floods hit, I joined a three-reporter team with Cindy Hadish and Rick Smith covering flood recovery. Beginning in the spring of 2009, I’ve started writing more stories about police and crime, though I still write about flood recovery and county government.
